"What
is discipleship-counseling?" This might be the first
thought that enters your mind as you read this page! At PBU,
we see counseling and discipleship not as separate activities
but as inextricably linked. Christian Counseling at its core
is discipleship of the heart or care of the soul. The purpose
of discipleship-counseling is to help the suffering acquire
and display the character of Christ in the midst of their
difficulties; to grow in their ability to love God and others
no matter what circumstances they find themselves in.
The program emphasizes three main things: developing the
spiritual, intellectual and interpersonal maturity necessary
for counseling others; acquiring knowledge or the principles,
guidelines and ethics that are foundational to counseling;
cultivating the strategies and skill-sets necessary to do
discipleship-counseling in a variety of contexts.
In short, this program is designed to provide you with the
foundations for any kind of counseling or discipleship ministry.
You may choose to build on this foundation with further education
and/or training specific to an area in which you choose to
specialize. Upon successful completion of this program you
will find yourself prepared to either pursue further education
or begin a people-helping ministry in a variety of settings.
We also admit a limited number of students each year into
a dual-level degree program that allows you to earn in five
years an undergraduate degree in Bible and a graduate
degree in
Christian Counseling.
If you find yourself drawn to a ministry to the soul, we
would love to talk with you about our discipleship-counseling
program. Please feel free to contact me directly or our admissions
department.
