Program Overview

PBU’s Social Work Department provides our students with the best well-rounded education possible to equip them for their calling. Some distinctive features include the following:

  • Bachelor of Social Work
  • Interdisciplinary Social Service

Bachelor of Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and requires an extensive field placement experience. Students in this program are well prepared in biblical studies, arts and sciences, and social work. This program leads to the following two degrees: Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Bible.

Total: 150 credits

Social Service Interdisciplinary

The Interdisciplinary Program is ideal for the student who wants a Bible education with some limited exposure to social service issues. The field placement experience is not available; however, there is an internship requirement. This program is not accredited by CSWE. The student earns one degree: the Bachelor of Science in Bible.

Total: 126 credits

Entrance Requirements and Standards

Requirements for admission to and continuance in the Bachelor of Social Work Program include the following:

Admission

  1. Minimum GPA of 2.0 overall
  2. Completion of application form
  3. Recommendation by Student Development Department personnel
  4. Recommendation by faculty and staff
  5. Recommendation by social work faculty

Continuance

  1. Minimum GPA of 2.0 overall
  2. Minimum GPA of 2.5 in social work courses
  3. Demonstration of personal qualities essential for working with people, such as:
    1. value orientation consistent with the social work profession
    2. sensitivity to the needs of people
    3. self-awareness
    4. a sense of responsibility

These qualities will be assessed by social work faculty and field instructors. Graduates of this program receive the bachelor of science in Bible and bachelor of social work degrees.
