Departmental Mission

The Teacher Education programs at PBU exist to prepare reflective and highly skilled men and women of academic excellence and Christian character for the teaching profession.

  1. The program provides thorough preparation for teaching in public, Christian, and other private and international schools.
  2. The program emphasizes a broad yet organized and sequenced body of general and subject-specific knowledge that forms the subject matter to be taught.
  3. The total curriculum for teacher education is designed to develop critical and creative thinking, a thirst for knowledge, a desire to know truth, a passion for intellectual coherency, and the disposition to engage and excite learners toward these intellectual ends.
  4. The Teacher Education curriculum is designed to thoroughly prepare the candidate to promote learning in diverse student populations in the Commonwealth of PA and around the world.
  5. The program is performance-based, requiring measured effectiveness and competence in the content and delivery of the curriculum, in human relations, and in professionalism in an authentic setting: the school.
  6. The overall candidate preparation is enhanced as the beliefs and values inherent in a Christian worldview, especially the “love of God and love of one’s neighbor,” are taught through biblical studies and integrated throughout the university life and curriculum.
  7. Character development is at the heart of a PBU education across all University schools and is of utmost importance in the field of education.

Vision Statement:

Faculty members in the School of Education take seriously the education of every student accepted into the program. Each faculty member is committed to high standards and quality preparation for each student. The goal of the School of Education is to deliver highly effective and reflective educators prepared to serve the children of the Commonwealth, the United States, and the world, for God’s glory.
