various performance ensembles. Groups are formed at the beginning
of the fall semester. If you would like additional information
about any of these groups, please contact music@pbu.edu.
Churches and organizations interested in hosting an ensemble
should also contact the music office at music@pbu.edu. Concert
schedules are available online HERE.
Brass Ensemble
Performance of standard concert literature as well as transcriptions
of hymns and sacred songs. Membership is open to all students.
One hour of rehearsal per week.
Chamber Singers [concert schedule]
Approximately 10-16 voices selected for their
vocal quality and sight-reading ability. Performance of standard
chamber literature selected from various periods and styles.
Membership is open to all students on the basis of audition/interview.
The Chamber Singers rehearse for two hours each week.
Chorale [concert schedule]
Performance of standard choral works selected
from various periods and styles. Emphasis upon sacred choral
literature. Chorale performs regularly with the PBU
Symphony Orchestra and takes an extended annual tour.
Membership is open to all students on the basis of audition/interview.
The Chorale rehearses for four hours each week.
PBU Symphony Orchestra [concert schedule]
Performance of standard orchestral literature as well as accompaniments for major oratorio performances. Membership is open to all students. Two and one-half hours of rehearsal per week.
PBU Wind Ensemble [concert schedule]
Performance of standard band literature including
transcriptions.
Membership open to all qualified students as well as players
from
the surrounding community. Two and one-half hours of rehearsal
per week.
Handbell Choir [concert schedule]
Performance of standard literature written
for English Handbells. Membership open to all students. Sight-reading
ability required. Two hours of rehearsal per week.
Hosanna 
Performance of contemporary Christian music
and hymn arrangements for ministry at churches, youth meetings,
retreats and banquets. Membership open to all students. Two
hours of rehearsal per week.
Laudate
Comprised of six upperclassmen in the music
program, this vocal and instrumental ensemble travels to
area churches and schools. Students present a program which
reflects the departments academic and ministry-oriented
emphases, as well as the diversity and ability of our music
students. Members are chosen by the School Dean and perform
mostly classical and sacred works. Laudate performs at
high school chapels throughout the year and takes an extended
tour in May and June.
PBU Community Chorus [concert schedule]
Performance of a major choral work with orchestra
annually. Membership open to all students. Two hours of rehearsal
per week, rehearsals beginning in mid-October with a concert
in early February. Register non-credit in the fall and 1
credit in the spring.
Joy [concert schedule]
A women's trio/quartet performing contemporary
Christian music and hymn arrangements for ministry at churches,
youth meetings, retreats and banquets. Membership open to
all students. Two hours of rehearsal per week.
Chamber Music (instrumental)
The study and performing of chamber repertoire
based on particular student instrumentation, including independent
and coached preparation.
Jazz Ensemble
Performing experience in standard jazz literature. Improvisation is stressed and jazz performance techniques are discussed. Audition is required. Open to all students. 80 minutes of rehearsal per week.
Opera Workshop [concert schedule]
This organization presents multiple performances each year: in the Fall semester, an operetta or a collection of opera scenes; in the Spring semester, a Broadway-styled musical. As an educational experience, the ensemble introduces students to the world of opera and musical theater, giving attention to dramatic movement, emotional interpretation, staging principles, scenery, props, costumes, makeup and lighting.
Chapel Worship Team
A vocal/instrumental ensemble designed to prepare and lead congregational music and worship for University Chapels. Includes an introduction to worship design and leadership as well as rehearsal and performance skills, with a focus on contemporary forms and styles. Membership is open to all students on the basis of audition. 80 minutes of rehearsal and class per week.
