Welcome to the School of Music and Performing Arts!
As you explore the information on the following pages, you will find that PBU’s music programs are designed to uniquely prepare you to be an outstanding Christian musician of excellence and integrity. The five 5-year, dual-degree programs (B.Music/B.S.Bible) and the 4-year Church Music program (B.S. Bible), provide the highest caliber of musical education and experience. Combined with rigorous undergraduate studies in Bible, theology, church history, and the arts and sciences, PBU’s music programs will help you effectively serve the Church, society and the world as biblically minded, well-educated and professionally competent men and women of character. This combination of musical excellence and biblical scholarship is what makes PBU’s music programs stand above the rest!
New to the five B.Music programs is a second, five-year church music program with a distinctively contemporary emphasis. The Church Music/Worship Leader program is designed to prepare graduates to serve as worship leaders in churches where contemporary music forms and worship patterns are incorporated. The unique features of the new program build upon the classically-based tradition of PBU’s School of Music and Performing Arts and include:
- Guitar study and proficiency requirements for all concentrations
- Development of jazz, pop and gospel techniques in applied study
- Increased jazz and contemporary music ensemble experiences
- Courses in music technology and arranging for contemporary church music ensembles
- Internships focusing on contemporary worship team-based church ministry
- Faculty who are experienced leaders in contemporary church music
PBU’s five B. Music degree programs are fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and are led by seven full-time faculty. These core faculty are not only outstanding performers, composers, church musicians, conductors and educators, but godly teachers and mentors committed both to your development as a musician and your growth into a mature Christian servant-leader. In addition, nearly twenty part-time and adjunct faculty and affiliate artists complete the faculty and provide the highest level of specialized instruction in all performing areas. Some of our graduates have moved directly into church and school positions while others have successfully completed graduate study at some of the nation’s finest universities and conservatories.
Whether you sense God calling you to serve in church music ministry, teach in a public or private school, teach and perform professionally, or develop your skills as a composer, PBU’s music program is ready to help you fulfill that calling. Please read on and see why PBU may be the place for you!
