Outstanding Young Christian Artist Competition

What is it?
The Outstanding Young Christian Artist Competition is an annual performance competition for high school and college students.

Purpose:
To encourage the appreciation for and performance of art music by outstanding young Christian musicians.

Young Christian ArtistWho May Enter?
1. High School students (grades 9 - 12)
2. College students (undergraduate)

A brief statement explaining how and when you came to know Christ as your personal Savior must accompany your application.

Prizes:
Winners will perform with the PBU Symphony Orchestra on Friday April 25, 2008 (must be available fore evening rehearsals on April 22 and 24). Up to four winners will be announced: two in the high-school division and two in the college division. The School of Music and Performing Arts reserves the right not to award winners. Runners-up in each category will be announced and may be asked to perform if the winner is unable to do so.

Judges:
High school competitors: Full-time faculty of the PBU School of Music and Performing Arts
College age competitors: Outside professional musicians

Repertoire:
1. One movement of a concerto, an opera or oratorio excerpt, or other complete composition for soloist and orchestra.
2. The selected piece must have orchestral parts in print and available.
3. Music must be performed from memory.
4. PBU reserves the right to determine programming suitability of the pieces performed.

Duration:
Not to exceed 20 minutes (timing to be exact, including introduction). Entries over 20 minutes will be disqualified.

Accompanists:
Performers should supply their own accompanist, or an accompanist will be provided for an additional $45.00 fee. If an accompanist is requested, a copy of the music must be received with registration. Rehearsal time allotted with staff accompanist will be proportionate to the length of the piece.

Competition Date:
College Students: Friday, February 1, 2008 / 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
High School Students: Saturday, February 2, 2008 / 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Snow Dates: Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February 9
- You will be notified of your exact audition time approximately two weeks before the competition
- You must be able to compete at any time on your respective competition date--no requests please.

Application / Entry Fee:
$35.00 non-refundable check or money order (payable to: Philadelphia Biblical University) along with your application to:

If applicable, the additional $45.00 accompanist fee must also be included with the registration.

Entry Deadline:
Friday, January 18, 2008
Entries received after this date must include a $15.00 late fee.

Notification:
Participants will be notified of competition results by mail within one week of the competition.
