2007 Field Hockey Team
The 2007 field hockey team will look to build on last season’s 8-12 record in which they won their last five out of eight games. First-year coach Grace Hart takes over the program for Paula Beach, who stepped down in April after 10 seasons with the Crimson Eagles.
The field hockey team will be led by six seniors this year that will try and guide a relatively young and inexperienced team. PBU lost only three seniors from last year’s team but in the process lost their two top scorers.
Seniors Erin Rohrer (6 goals, 2 assists) and Stacey Messick (3 goals, 5 assists) will be looked to as the main offensive threats for the Crimson Eagle’s front line and will be asked to do much of the scoring. Senior goal keeper Katie Augnst will be counted on to anchor the defense and to duplicate last year’s efforts as she was tremendous in goal, giving up only 1.86 goals a game.
With a roster that includes only 14 total players, PBU’s starting eleven will need to be in top shape and remain healthy in order for the Crimson Eagles to have consistent play throughout the year. Unfortunately, one or two injuries during the year could prove to be tough to overcome due to the team’s lack of numbers.
"Although we are fairly young and inexperienced at the collegiate level, I’m extremely excited about the progress our team has made so far throughout preseason," commented Coach Hart. "We are already starting to utilize our spacing and passing a little better, and I expect that we will continue to improve as the season moves on. I’ve been encouraged by our hard work so far this preseason and am expecting it will pay off once we begin games." |
