Head Coach: Dick Beach
Dick Beach returns for his seventh consecutive season at the helm of the men's basketball program. Coach Beach also led the program back in the 1970’s for four season from ‘75-’79. Through his 11 combined years of coaching at Philadelphia Biblical, the longtime coach has compiled a collective record of 109-155.
Under Coach Beach’s tenure, the Crimson Eagles have won the NCCAA Division II East Region Championship twice; made two trips to the national tournament; and have registered one appearance in the national title game. Coach Beach’s 2001-02 team’s second place finish in all of NCCAA II marks the best finish for any PBU men’s basketball team in program history.
Over the past year the men’s program has shifted its attention toward NCAA Division III and the North Eastern Athletic Conference having committed to pursuing post-season options in that affiliation. The Crimson Eagles will try and improve on their fourth place finish in the Southern Conference of the NEAC from last season in which they compiled a 6-10 record.
Besides coaching basketball, Dr. Beach serves as chair of the Health and Physical Education Department at the University. He is married to Paula, who also works at PBU in the HPE Department, and has three grown children.
Assistant Coach: Brett Nelson
Coach Nelson enters his second season as the assistant men’s basketball coach. Nelson, a recent graduate of PBU, is excited about the opportunity he has to contribute to the program. He has been able to develop good relationships with many of the current players over the past few years and he will continue to try to be an encouragement and leader for the team. Nelson’s focus will be to work with the big men and also to help the newer players become accustomed to the nuances and different challenges of the college game.
In addition to serving as the University’s head golf coach, Nelson is an Assistant Golf Professional at Radnor Valley Country Club in Villanova, PA. He is currently a PGA Apprentice and is working towards PGA membership. Nelson resides in Churchville, PA. He can be reached at bnelson@pbu.edu. |
