Season Outlook

2007 Cross CountryTeam

The 2007 season marks the first time that PBU will field a cross country team in twelve years. The Crimson Eagles will be led by 2005 Temple University graduate Jon Vigle in their first year of competition who will coach both the men’s and women’s teams.

As with any first year program, the Crimson Eagles’ success will largely depend on how quickly they can come together as a team. The group faces an uphill battle due to the low number of participants on the team at this point in the year. However, despite several major obstacles that are typical for any program in its first year, Coach Vigile remains optimistic about how his team will fair in competition.

Senior runner Jared Bender will captain a young men’s group that features six underclassmen and only three upperclassman. Sophomore Jared Wilcox and junior Mike Candy have looked strong during preseason workouts and will try to anchor the Crimson Eagle’s top five during competition. Other runners that will look to make an impact include Bender, junior Kevin Jones, sophomores John Geating and Christopher Zaugg, and freshmen Bradley McCallister, David Planer, and Ian Schock.

The women’s team will be led and captained by sophomore runner Jennifer Reifsnyder. The PBU women have only four total runners but will nontheless try and remain competitive in the NEAC. Reifsnyder's teammates include sophomores Rebecca Deininger and Hilary Dunham along with freshman Sarah Hunter.

“I am excited about the opportunity both the men’s and women’s teams have at hand,” stated Coach Vigile. “Although we are a first year program I think that we have a chance to surprise many teams around us. We have good athletes that I think will experience success if we continue to work hard.”
