Head Coach: Rachael Joye
Rachael Joye is entering her second season as the head coach for the Crimson Eagle softball team. Coach Joye received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2000 from Vanguard University (Southern California), where she was a four-year starting catcher for the Lions and received honors as an All-Conference performer and an All-American Scholar-Athlete.
In addition to her collegiate playing days, Joye has participated in competitive softball for more than 16 years. She has an extensive teaching and coaching background that encompasses a variety of competitive levels, ranging from young children to college athletes. Joye has been an assistant coach at both the high school and collegiate levels and has experience implementing drill work, practice designs, and conditioning programs. Most recently, Joye was the primary instructor at PBU’s first ever softball day camp held in early February in coordination with the National Women and Girls in Sports Day.
In her first season with the Crimson Eagles a year ago, Coach Joye led PBU to an 11-18-1 record - a remarkable turnaround for a team that went just 2-32 the year before her arrival. The nine game swing in back-to-back seasons marks the best single-year improvement in the program’s history. After going 0-6 to start the year, Coach Joye’s squad finished a respectable 11-12-1 the rest of the way despite playing with an extremely young group that featured seven underclassmen in the regular line-up.
“I love the game of softball and am excited about the opportunity that lies ahead for this year’s team,” Joye said. “I’m confident that the program can continue to progressively improve and I’m excited about helping each of the players grow as Christian student-athletes.”
In addition to her head coaching duties, Joye also serves as the Head Athletic Trainer at PBU. Joye holds a master’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training, is a nationally certified athletic trainer, and maintains a license to practice athletic training in the state of Pennsylvania.
Rachael and her husband Michael reside in the Philadelphia area.
