2007 Women's Soccer Season Outlook

Women's SoccerThe women’s soccer team will head into the 2007 season under new leadership as Dave Loesser takes over the coaching responsibilities.

The Crimson Eagles will rely on experience and veteran leadership this fall in their quest for a NEAC title and an NCCAA tournament birth. Coach Loesser will bank on his eight seniors to help improve upon last season’s 10-11 finish in which the team advanced to the NCCAA II East Region Championship Game but fell to Baptist Bible College, 4-1.

Fortunately for the Crimson Eagles, the team returns their three top scorers from a year ago. Junior midfielder Summer Mullen (13 goals, 5 assists), senior forward Hannah Messenger (8 goals, 6 assists), and junior forward Alexa Hays (13 goals, 2 assists) return to spearhead an offense that averaged almost 2.5 goals a game last season.

The team also returns the backbone of their defense as goalkeeper Melissa Landis will look to anchor a back line that let up only 1.33 goals a game last year. Joining Landis in her efforts will be junior defender Ashley Colton, sophomore Rachel Spalding, and sophomore Lindsey Fornwalt, among others.

Senior captains Hannah Messenger and Elizabeth Seiple will lead an experienced group that returns a total of 13 players. In addition, the Crimson Eagles will feature 13 total upperclassmen during the 2007 campaign to go along with five sophomores and one freshman.

The women’s soccer team will open up their season on Wednesday, September 5 when they take on Rutgers Camden University in Langhorne at 4:00 pm.
