Church Music Celebration

Saturday, February 27, 2010

WEATHER UPDATE - The Church Music Celebration will be held as scheduled today, February 27.

The Philadelphia Biblical University School of Music and Performing Arts presents a day for the church musician — choir mmbers, choir directors, ministers of music, soloists, worship teams, children’s choir leaders, accompanists, and handbell ringers, plus a special track for Pastors.

Features of the Day

Keynote Address: Dr. Bill Brandenstein will deliver the keynote address: "The Reason We Sing: Reclaiming the Biblical Purpose for Music."

Seven Interest-Specific tracks presented by PBU faculty and guest clinicians:

Track 1: Choir Members and Voice
Track 2: Conducting
Track 3: Contemporary Worship
Track 4: Children’s Music
Track 5: Handbells
Track 6: Keyboard
Track 7: General and Pastors

Participants may select one track OR “mix and match” the workshops.

Music Reading Sessions: Receive packets of free choral music in four specialized reading sessions. Dynamic, expressive, well-crafted, and theologically-sound anthems from many publishers will be presented.

Publishers’ Displays: Young's Music returns with a wide selection of choral, vocal and instrumental music for your perusal and purchase. Orders will be taken for any of the music used in the reading sessions.

Guest Speaker

Dr. Bill Brandenstein currently serves along side Dr. John MacArthur as Assistant Minister of Worship and Music at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. Since graduating from PBU in 1987, he has directed church music ministries in various denominations, including Rosewood Christian Reformed Church and Bel Air Presbyterian Church. Dr. Brandenstein’s current responsibilities encompass a variety of areas: directing services of either traditional or contemporary styles; rehearsing choirs and instrumental ensembles; composing, orchestrating, and arranging “charts” for contemporary worship teams; evaluating newly published music; serving as a liaison to the technical ministries (sound, lighting, and projection); and working as a recording engineer. In the last capacity, his recordings have been published by Grace Community Church and The Master’s College, and heard on public radio and television. He has taught at Grace Community Church’s annual Shepherd’s Conference for the past several years, served as adjunct faculty at The Master’s College, and has taught The Master’s Seminary’s core music and worship
course since 2006.

Dr. Brandenstein lives in Santa Clarita, California, with his wife Amy and their three children.
