Rape and Sexual Assault
Whether the victim intends to press charges or not,
it is strongly recommended that rape or attempted rape
or sexual assault be reported. Notify someone immediately
such as a Resident Assistant, the Office of Safety and
Security, a Professor or Police.
While waiting for the Office of Safety and Security
or Police:
- Do not change your clothing
- Do not clean your clothing or person
- Do not apply medication
This will ensure that evidence is preserved should
you decide to press charges later. Questions an officer
may ask are not intended to embarrass the victim or
intimidate. it is important to give as much information
as possible so the person responsible can be apprehended
and prevented from victimizing others.
The University has trained counselors who can help
victims deal with the mental trauma which can accompany
a vicious attack.
For more information regarding the University's policy
regarding Sexual Assault and Rape, refer to the policy
and regulations page.

Bomb Threat
Bomb threats usually occur by telephone. The person
receiving a bomb threat call should remain calm and
attempt to obtain as much information as possible from
the caller. Ask the following questions:
- Where is the bomb?
- What will cause it to explode?
- When will it explode?
- Why did you put the bomb there?
- What does it look like?
- What is your name?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- Where are you calling from?
- What is the telephone number there?
- Listen for unusual noises or voice characteristics
and/or familiarity?
Should you spot a suspicious object, package, etc.
report it to the Office of Safety and Security at x4350.
DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE THE OBJECT. When calling the Office
of Safety and Security, give your name, location and
telephone number. If instructed to evacuate, move a
safe distance away from the building (a minimum of 500

Fire
In the event of fire:
- Pull the fire alarm to warn others
- Call the Office of Safety and Security at x4350
(215.702.4350) and provide them with as much information
as possible.
- Attempt to extinguish the fire ONLY if it is very
small and you know how to do it safely.
- If the extinguisher does not put out the fire within
one minute, leave immediately.
- If the fire is large, very smoky, or rapidly spreading,
evacuate the building immediately. Inform others in
the building who may not have responded to the alarm
to evacuate immediately.
- Evacuate to a distance of at least 500 feet from
the building to the designated areas. Stay out of
the way of emergency personnel. Do not return to enter
the building until instructed to do so by authorized
personnel.
- Notify your Resident Assistant (RA) or an officer
of the Office of Safety and Security if you suspect
someone may be trapped inside the building.
Fire Safety
We periodically conduct fire alarm drills, provide
fire safety training and evaluate the results. We respond
to all fire alarms on campus in order to check the area,
ensure the evacuation of the building, notify and inform
responding fire companies (if necessary) and clear/reactivate
the alarms.

Evacuation of a Building
- Evacuation of the building will be signaled by the
fire alarm system or by verbal notification.
- Walk, do not run, to the nearest stairwell or exit.
Do not use the elevators as you may become trapped
or the elevators may not be working.
- Identify and assist those persons who may need special
assistance in evacuating the building.
- It is suggested that wheelchair occupants or persons
with mobility impairment should prepare for emergencies
ahead of time by instructing classmates or instructors
on how to assist in case of an emergency. During an
emergency, persons who need special assistance should
move to the nearest stairwell or designated handicap
waiting area and ask for assistance from others. If
assistance is not immediately available, stay at the
designated handicap waiting area and assistance will
arrive. When rescue personnel arrive, they will first
check the designated handicap waiting areas and stairwells
for trapped persons.
- Once outside the building, move away from the building
to a distance of at least 500 feet to allow emergency
crews to operate safely.
- Notify the Office of Safety and Security or emergency
crews if you suspect that a person may still be in
the building.
- Do not return to the evacuated building unless directed
to do so by public safety personnel.
