Ensuring the Safety and Security of the University's People and Property
Psalm 127:1 best describes
the Office of Safety and Security's strength in carrying
out its responsibility. "Unless the Lord watches
over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain."
Philadelphia Biblical University's Office of Safety and Security is among one of the few in the United States that is staffed primarily by students. The department consists of the Director, two full-time Managers, three full-time Supervisors, and nearly 30 student Patrol Officers and Shuttle Drivers. Director Jerry Gangwer is a law enforcement veteran of 28 years with the FBI and began at PBU in 1998.
The officers of PBU's Office of
Safety and Security receive approximately 50 hours
of classroom and on the job training. The training
sessions are conducted by certified specialists in
their professional fields as well as by the Office
of Safety and Security personnel. All officers are
trained in the following:
- First Aid/CPR/AED
- Fire Safety
- Crime Scene Awareness
- Officer Safety
- Report Writing
- Interviewing victims and witnesses
- How Safety and Security relates
to the goals of the University
In addition, many of the full-time employees possess Pennsylvania State Emergency Medical Technician certification, providing PBU with enhanced and timely emergency medical response coverage.
