PBU JOINS THE NATION IN DAY OF PRAYER
September 14, 2001
Students stood and joined hands around cafeteria tables today,
joining the nation in a time of noontime prayer for those affected
by the recent terrorist tragedy of Tuesday, September 11th.
Earlier in the week, on the day of the terrorist attack, students,
faculty and staff had gathered in the University Chapel for a time
of extended prayer. Classes had been cancelled at noon, but the
Chapel was filled to capacity and overflowing.
During the assembly, many students came forward at the invitation
of President Sherrill Babb to share their feelings and prayer requests
for relatives and friends affected by the tragedy. President Babb
told the students that this would be a day they would never forget
and urged them to consider what the Lord would have them to do.
The assembly unified the campus and brought encouragement to everyone.
The following day, during a regularly scheduled Chapel, students,
faculty and staff listened intensely as Dr. Robert E. Wenger, Chair
of the Division of General Education, offered his reflections
on the tragedy.
