Students Raise Money to Build Well in Mozambique

January 2007

Students, along with faculty and staff, have contributed a total of $4,000 to build a well for a village in Mozambique Africa. The effort to raise the money was spearheaded by the University Social Committee (USC) through a benefit concert, Christmas coffeehouse, e-mails, announcements and a Chapel offering where students tossed wads of their lattee and coffee money in homemade water jugs. One student offered to match up to $300 raised by individual residence halls. According to Assistant Dean of Students, Annette Hernandez, “PBU students could have been satisfied with raising only $1,200 to provide a water pump but instead wanted to serve and bless a community [of 500] with quality drinking water.” The monies will be given to LifeWater International, “a Christian training organization that believes all people have a right to safe water...”
