General
Information
In the mid-1980s, sensitivity to changing
times and needs prompted the leaders of Philadelphia
Biblical University to create a special one-year Bible
program that would meet the needs of some contemporary
students. Their concern was for students who were looking
for something different from the traditional Bible
or Christian college program and who wanted a significant
experience in their college education. The vision was
to establish an educational alternative which would
allow students to get away from their normal environment,
receive a Bible-centered education and focus intensively
on character development and life direction.
In 1987 the Christian businessmen who own and operate
Lake Owen Camp in the northwoods of Wisconsin offered
the use of their facility to PBU and the Wisconsin Wilderness
Campus was launched.
Since it was established, WWC has earned the reputation
of being a high-quality, exciting, creative educational
alternative in which students receive a high degree
of individual attention. WWC alumni have enthusiastically
expressed their satisfaction with the program and appreciation
for what it has meant in their personal growth and preparation
for their future. Almost 80% of WWC students have continued
in their college education. The others have entered
the workplace or have chosen a vocational Christian
ministry.
Location
WWC is located on beautiful Lake Owen outside the
town of Cable in the northwoods of Wisconsin. WWC is
in the heart of some of the finest recreational wilderness
in the country. It is surrounded by the Chequamegon
National Forest--almost one million acres of beautiful
woodland with 464 miles of streams and 411 lakes. Miles
of hiking and biking trails, downhill skiing and snowboarding,
first-class cross-country ski trails, groomed snowmobile
routes, waterskiing, boating, canoeing and more provide
year-round enjoyment.
The small town of Cable serves a large surrounding
area that includes some first-class resorts. Cable is
also home of the world-famous American Birkebeiner cross-country
ski race, drawing 7,500 skiers and 20,000 spectators
from around the world. The largest off-road bike race,
the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival, brings 2,500 cyclists
to the area every fall.

Facilities
WWC uses the facilities of Lake Owen Camp, a summer
sports camp. The 16-acre camp is located on a peninsula
on Lake Owen and has 1,600 feet of lake frontage. The
center of the campus is Lake Owen Lodge which houses
the cafeteria, library, computer lab and offices.
There
is a two-story building across from the Lodge, where
all subjects are taught. The main floor is a student
lounge area, containing a snack bar, games, a pool table,
piano and computers. The second floor houses the classroom.
The gymnasiums on campus are primarily gymnastics and
in-line skate/skateboarding facilities used for the
summer sports camp. However, the camp does allow WWC
to use the gymnasiums under specific guidelines. The
gymnasiums are used by WWC for volleyball, weight-lifting,
in-line skating/skateboarding, and general exercise.
Student housing at WWC is both scenic and spacious.
The dormitories, built in 1998, are cedar-sided A-frame
structures that are quaintly nestled on the banks of
Lake Owen. Both the men's and women's dorms have three
floors with two dorm rooms and one lounge on each level.
There are three or four students in each dorm room (rooms
are larger than a typical college room).
Other buildings on campus are for staff housing and
visiting professors. The lake itself because of location,
is used by students in both fall and winter, and becomes
an integral part of campus life throughout the year.
